Yoga is a valuable way to bring the body into a state of balance, achieving strength, clarity, concentration, and increased confidence. I believe in the body’s ability to heal itself and that inspiration should come from one's daily practice. In today’s busy world what is so important is moving into a place of stillness. The more natural harmony we have in our lives enables us to live to our optimum. When we work in a quiet, sensitive, and focused way we connect with our intuitiveness which can help us to make the right decisions in our daily life. “The quieter you become the more you can hear.” The breath and movement help the body release negative tensions and stiffness so we feel calmer, promoting profound inner relaxation and a sense of wellbeing.
From a young age, I found yoga was an intelligent, practical tool to maintain spinal and body health while enhancing mental clarity and emotional balance. I started this journey at the age of eighteen and my early teaching experience was under the guidance of Senior Iyengar Teacher Ruth White. I commenced my training at the Iyengar Yoga Institute in London and qualified in 1993. I have continued to gain knowledge over the years studying with many inspiring, dedicated teachers, and gained qualifications in other areas such as back care and mental health.
I have taught yoga full-time since 1993. My work has been a mixture of group classes and one-to-ones. I specialize in helping people with back pain management and believe yoga is a wonderful tool for spinal health. Additional work includes teaching at a hospital for women with eating and personality disorders, Combat Stress for Veterans at a residential centre, and teaching a weekly session to women from countries such as Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Bangladesh.
Teaching yoga is a privilege and has not only enriched me but also given me a wonderful purpose in life. On the mat, I feel totally at home with myself. I love the process of yoga and how it evolves as we age, revealing a deeper understanding of who we are. Yoga is essentially a practice of refining ourselves physically, mentally, and emotionally. It is an honour to share this way of life to help bring peace and happiness to others.
